INSERTION  OF SOFT LENSES

Place the lens on the index finger used for insertion.  The finger should be dry since the lens likes the wettest surface.  You can put a drop inside the lens.  Make sure that the lens is not inside out.  If the lens is placed inside out it will slide around, blur, and not be comfortable.  One method of checking is the taco test; lightly squeeze the lens together, if the lens edges turn inwards it is correct if they turn outwards the lens is inside out.  Another way is to hold the lens up in the air and look at the edges.  The edges should almost roll in when correct and outward slightly if inside out.  Some lenses have engravings which might help.

When putting the lens on the eye make sure that the eye stays open.  The best way is to reach over your forehead with the opposite hand and hold the eye lashes firmly.  Place the lens on the cornea of the eye gently with both eyes open.  Look down slightly to seat the lens.  Slowly, release the lids.

REMOVAL

Make sure that your fingers are clean and dry. Put your index finger on the lens and slide it down.  Do not let go. Now use your index finger and thumb to pinch the lens off the eye.  If you are having trouble place a drop of rewetting solution in the eye a couple of minutes before removal.

Sticking Lens

Place a couple of drops of rewetting solution in the eye and wait a minute or two.  Then gently manipulate the lens through the lids.

Displaced Lens

A lens must be on the cornea before removing.  Re-center the lens before removal.  The lens can not go behind your eye.
