Dear VSP Member,
Welcome to our office. Your employer has provided you with
the most comprehensive vision plan. Unlike most other vision plans, VSP requires
the use of the highest quality contact lenses, ophthalmic lenses and frames. For
this reason VSP is the only vision care plan that we accept. Most VSP plans
provide for a comprehensive eye examination and either contact
lenses or glasses (usually not both).
Services for medical care are not
covered by VSP. These services are provided by your medical
plan. For
example, if you make an appointment for any of the following: red eye, pain,
non-glasses related reduced vision, infection, floaters, etc. you must
use your medical plan. VSP covers well eye care examinations, determination of
new glasses or contact lens prescription, and associated glasses and contacts as
per your company’s contract. Sound confusing, well it is. Our staff deals with
hundreds of insurance companies some having more than a hundred plans. Our staff
is committed to helping you through trials and tribulations of insurance
reimbursement. Remember that we don’t create insurance company’s
policies, these are your plans negotiated by your employer. We are happy to
provide the services contracted by your employer. Thus, you are responsible for
care not provided by your insurance plan. You should be happy to know that if
your employer provides you with VSP, they have made a serious attempt to provide
you with best possible care.
Most VSP plans cover either contact lenses or glasses but not
both. A contact lens evaluation fee of $85.00 is charged for an evaluation of
your current contact lenses and determination of a new prescription; it does not
cover fees for refitting if necessary. Our optical dispensary provides 20%
discount on a pair of glasses or on glasses purchased when using the contact
lens service. Patients often ask us how best to use VSP. If you require both
contact lens and glasses we recommend that you use the plan for the contact
lenses.
Bring your glasses and
any contact lens information (old prescription, bottles, or box)
